Sistar are unquestionably one of the most iconic, beloved and untouchable groups in K-Pop history. They set trends, dominated the charts, and made many Summer’s unforgettable.
Needless to say, many of us were shocked when we heard the news they were disbanding. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that it felt like a piece of our heart ripping out. Some of us probably shed some tears, while others listened to all of their favourite Sistar songs in a bittersweet marathon. We had survived losing groups like KARA, Rainbow, 2NE1, and Wonder Girls. We were going to get through this too.
Then we watched the music video for the final comeback, “Lonely”.
Nope. We were not ready. This “goodbye” song and music video was incredibly overwhelming. The first time I saw it, I cried more than I ever thought I could for a group.
What sticks in my head is the image of them trying to find each other in the music video, seeing them searching while all alone. It was showing us that they really are going their own ways in life, though they will always love each other and keep in touch.
As fans, the very idea of never seeing these four perform together again, or make music together again, is overwhelming. Though nowhere near as serious, the pain is somewhat akin to losing friends you’ve been close with for seven years.
SISTAR have already cemented their legacy in the K-Pop world. They will never be forgotten, and they will never be replaced. Thank-you for seven unforgettable years.
